Setting:

Kane is a character from an original web comic/graphic novel, I’m planning to pen and draw out. It’s plotty, features the derpiest exorcist ever and one day I will get off my butt and start working on it. But - until then, I am going to make him suffer in space.

❖ W O R L D
Strife City is a city with two sides.

Located in an undisclosed location in Eastern Europe and fashioned in size and density similar to that of London and New York. It serves as a melting pot of both cultures and the mystical. It’s a city with no walls or barriers, where they’ve declared themselves the only place where people are truly free. It seems free of governance, save for the eerie notion that it is under the guard of The Council; and while the crime rate is reasonably high – there seems to exist a system of justice. The city is mazelike, spanning tall metal skyscrapers and its streets are always filled to the brim with cars. This is the nicer face.

Kane was not always a resident of Strife, he has no familial attachments to anyone there, but the reason why he chose to form his roots there is because of the city’s other side. The preternatural have played hand in a lot of things, which include current politics to aid of causing and fueling wars. They played a hidden hand in History, until their affairs started spilling over Mortal affairs; and they were made to waltz out of the closet and declare: ‘Yes, we do in fact exist,’ Discriminations formed, laws were rearranged and another type of governance shaped itself.

Fast-forward a few decades where the preternatural take up a sizable portion of the world’s population (17% mystic rate). Each country has a small knit community of preternatural, and with every city there exists a Master. They serve as the voice for the preternatural community of the city and act as a liaison to the rest of the world. The title of Master is earned by killing the previous one.

There's the rough equivalent of a mystic cold war going on. Each kind has it's leaders and each kind has it's histories. With the system of Masters set up in each city, the level of competition has turned fiercer despite the fact the Preternatural Community gives everyone outside it an illusion of peace.

Apart from this, Kane's time period is modern. No other technological advancements, and has relatively the same level of pop-culture.

❖ P R A E T E R N A T U R A L

Their world consists of many subtypes of supernatural. The main class divide is into: Vampires, Were-Animals, Fae, Demons, Practitioners and the Mortals. Will expound on the other classes if required; but for the sake of this app - the main focus is the vampire.

Vampire's in Kane's world are pretty standard.

Skills included: Enhanced senses, strength and speed. The ability to see in the dark; immortality at the cost of needing to feed at least once a week. The ability to telepathically communicate with the person who made them or whose blood they've ingested.

They have their downsides too. They must be invited in before they can enter. A stake to the heart will kill them. Beheading ensures they don't come back to life. Garlic really does lower blood pressure so they may feel a bit dizzy after ingestion. They burn in sunlight. Articles of faith (Holy Water, Crosses, etc) don't kill but when in direct contact sting like someone had poured alcohol on an open wound.

They also show up in mirrors.

History:

Cameron was born in a family of old vampiric aristocracy. When Cameron was a child his family took a sizable manor as one of their homes. Aged in foundations but not without it's beauties. He and his twin brother, Nickolai were taken there for refuge. The wars between the preternatural races were at the peak of instability; plots and assassinations thrown left and right. Extreme precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the two and a thick wall was built to separate the manor from the rest of the world. The wall was constantly hounded by guards and did not permit exit or entry without express permission from the head of house.

Due to the unsteady nature of the preternatural world the family had left the two be for the most part. Their parents rarely played audience to the manor. They would sporadically come and go; stayed for months at a time but left all the same. They were cared for by an elderly Russian woman with a penchant for liquor and educated by tutors. Because of the secluded nature of their situation, they had not been allowed to leave and see the towns unless their father was with them. Any knowledge of what was beyond the wall had been reduced to a blank.

The brothers realized over time that they were each other’s only constants; together they created their own little world where only the two of them existed. They were each other's comfort zones and fell into a dance of codependency and need.

When they reached eleven, that zone was breached. Things had changed when their caretaker brought home her son, Yuriy. Their father informed the caretaker that he would be leaving for an extended period of time and Yuriy's father had forced him on her. She forced the children interact at her own convenience. Cameron and Nick’s blatant lack of inabilities to talk to anyone outside of each other first intimidated Yuriy. Eventually, time progressed and the barriers broke. They fitted and pieced Yuriy into their own little world and friendship was formed.

Time went on and Yuriy had opened up to Nick, and confessed in his exact words: "I’m a were-pup,”. The boy was bitten early into his childhood, which resulted in his mother not being emotionally capable to cope at her son being a monthly monster. She had turned to alcohol for solace and Yuriy admitted to being both mistreated and unwanted from his mother.

The two had bonded significantly and the friendship that formed between them was great. Cameron started to note the fact that Nick and Yuriy were interacted more and had begun to feel extremely excluded. The two don't quite take notice of their actions. Eventually, Cameron confronted them both about the amount of time they spent with each other and Yuriy confessed his problem. Cameron inquired as to why he kept it from him; Nick simply answered for Yuriy and expressed the fact that Yuriy harbored romantic inclinations for Cameron. And he had thought that the fact would deter his chances. Cameron was fourteen and he attempted falling in love awkwardly with his brother's best friend.

The second breach was when a relative, Kraven came in for a visit. By this time, they were sixteen and the three of them were attached at the hip. Kraven was a vampire of considerable age and he had visited to monopolize the safety of the manor’s walls. Nick had taken the time to play host and Kraven started to serve as a mentor to him. Cameron and Yuriy lost themselves in romance; being love struck and besotted teenagers that they were don’t take Nick’s actions for any extra thought. Nick gains distance with them to opt for gaining knowledge with Kraven.

The couple takes some time to walk around the gardens one evening. Cameron expresses his interest to properly experience the world outside the wall and Yuriy makes a promise to bust him (and Nick) out one day. They discussed hypothetical situations, like the easiest way to break free. The two basked in the idea of freedom and that one day, perhaps Cameron will experience it. The hours drew late and eventually they returned to the manor.

They both walked into Nick with his mouth sunk into the throat of Yuriy’s mother; hunger clear in the boy's eyes. Kraven was nearby, smirked as he watched Nick spill blood all over the floor – Nick's mouth and Kraven's throat smeared with red. Nick was considerably paler; iris' a dark red and a clear look of pleasure in his eyes with fangs protruding where there was once teeth. Yuriy’s first priority was checking on his mother. Cameron’s first priority was running. An effect of Adrenaline perhaps, but he couldn’t recognize the thing that was Nickolai as anything more than a monster.

Cameron had always been gifted with speed; and although the two preternatural beings should have been able to outrun him they didn't seek chase. Before then he had heard of the vampire lore whispered from those who came and went from the manor; but never dared to breach the surface.

He made a dart for escape with Yuriy's briefly discussed plan. A small portion of the wall was in need of construction. He made use of it as a crawl space and finally takes his first steps into the rest of the world. He wondered aimlessly; trying to figure out how to adjust himself to the situation. The sounds of hounds; and the guards are sent out crying his name. He decided then that he could not go back. He tried to dodge them for most of the night; and eventually found himself in the town's pier. The pier had stacks after stacks of boxes and after an hour of searching he finds one considerably less secure then the others. He decided to creep inside a crate and wait until dawn arrived.

When he had woken up while the ship was headed to Japan. A stingy man with western features but clad in a Kimono, greeted him upon rising. He introduces himself as, 'Edward Suzrou' an exorcist in search of a very notorious vampire. At that, Kane's curiosity had gotten the better of him and he began asking questions. He tells his story with significant gaps; explains that he had witnessed a vampire attack and that he was currently on the run in fear that they might get to him. When prompted for a name, Cameron lies and pulls out the first name from his head: Kane. He also expounds on his predicament that a vampire ruined his only family and had nowhere else to go. He gives no last name, nor had Edward asked that question. Instead, he simply decided to fuel Cameron's helpless to his advantage and offered him the opportunity to be his protégé. Kane accepts and left behind his life as Cameron.

Edward adopted him into his family and Kane began using the last name Suzrou without hesitation. Edward's daughter, Setsuka had taken fondly to Kane and began treated him as an older brother. Edward was a widower who lost his wife to the preternatural war; and as he had promised his wife his children were off limits to his occupation. In Kane, he saw a loophole. In Kane, he saw potential.

Time passed and under Edward's guidance he had begun his life dealing with the undead. Edward's job as an exorcist is a loose term for supernatural executioner. Kane's anger and helplessness fueled his talents in the field. Edward then treated him as the son he could never have and Edward filled the absence of the father. Edward although thought him the proper way to skin a werewolf and the charms you needed to repel ghosts; he also managed to act as a proper mentor for Kane. Kane's losses at how the world functioned were filled in; but in that Kane was something for Edward to mould; a blank canvas where he could dictate every line and stroke. Edward took the time to turn him into a prodigy; thus causing the boy to be detached and remorseless.

Kane is around twenty-four and takes in case work. Dealing out execution after execution; and exorcism after exorcism. He maintains a mantra of what should be dead should stay dead. He makes ample use of jobs to use as his network of information. He then learned a little more into his family; that the last name Harrington holds tremendous rank as a pureblooded vampire family. That his father is it's current leader and a few of his relatives do hold quite high political power in the preternatural world. Out of all of them, he learned that Kraven and Nickolai had worked together to ascend in rank. Kraven has adapted the title of London's Master and through whispers of word of mouth may just give the reigns of the city to Nickolai. Yuriy had enlisted and served in their ranks.

Through studies he eventually learned that pureblooded vampires did not develop signs of vampirism until they intake blood; although over time the cravings would get stonger. This information he kept hidden from Edward; and continuously decided against revealing his true identity. Forever worried that the man who took him in may never accept him if he knew the truth.

The stories then focus on a range of cases where Kane meets an eccentric cast of characters; and deals with preternatural after preternatural. The threat of war, constantly looming over like a dark cloud and the cravings getting stronger the more the story progressed. He relocates to Strife City; as it's the hub of his work and the only free city - Nickolai eventually makes his presence known and indirectly requests audience with Kane Suzrou who has gained much reputation for skills in the field. Unbeknownst to Nickolai that he's summoned his brother.

Personality:

Kane for the most part hides the fact he’s a walking talking ball of angst with his sense of humor. He’s a funny guy, sometimes on the flirtatious side and he’s easily really fond of theatrics. He wears his humor as a mask; sometimes using it to slide an opinion across or to churn out statements a little more on the hurtful side. That kind of makes it hard for people to take him seriously when he isn’t working; it also makes him come off as kind of a douche. His sense of humor is on the witty banter end of the spectrum then it is on the dry and seething side. He’s also a bit morbid; but only because he doesn’t realize jokes about beheadings is funny to anyone outside him.

Kane for the most part is a coward when it comes to repercussions. He hates dealing with backlash of his actions when they aren’t in his favor; with his first reaction all the time is to find an escape route. He’s afraid of things like commitment and lasting relationships. He doesn’t make a lot of emotional attachments; and when he does, he has to go the extra mile to be sure they are still at arms length. He’s closed off and hardened out as far as people go and he doesn’t quite take too much pride in his detachment. For those reasons too, Kane is a bit more willing to do jobs other people don’t want too and has no problems giving or performing hard decisions.

Apart from Emotional Cowardice, he’s seen and dealt with enough things that go bump in the night to cause him to have an extremely high fear tolerance. Meaning he has a blurred definition of what is dangerous and what is scary. The good attribute to this is that sometimes it comes off as courage when it really for the most parts is stupidity. He tends to selectively ignore when situations are dangerous; and does what he has too anyway.

Kane for the most part isn’t incompetent; despite the many negative facts listed and he’s an obvious poster child for mental stability. In his field of exorcisms, he’s got a reputation for a reason. He keeps organized, he’s resourceful and he adapts to situations pretty easily. He’s a competent fighter and kind of badass when he needs to be. He’s pretty hard working and thorough too.

He has a past he’d rather really not want to dwell on. He’s going to brush off it as: “oh man, you have got to live in the present” and other lark; but really he just doesn’t want to talk about it. He has a lot of guilt and anger bottled up and the ‘what if’ he stayed constantly haunts him. Because of this, he genuinely doesn’t care about where people come from or what their backgrounds are and bases his opinion of things on what currently happens. He judges based on actions as opposed to situations. Which again is a statement with both benefits and repercussions.

Kane despite this has a very high penchant for a bleeding heart. He genuinely enjoys going out of his way to help people with their problems. He may keep himself at the distance; but he won’t turn down people who need to approach him. He doesn’t mind it when people open up to him. Which is why his occupation as an exorcist works really for him. He gets to kill a thing (that always releases a lot of frustration) and help people out; it’s like hitting two birds with one stone. He doesn't get paid regularly for what he does and is legitimately there because he has that small satisfaction that he helps people sleep better at night.

Kane also may start off as being the funny witty guy; but for the most parts with his past in notion this may not always be the case. His body’s clockwork is going to dictate that vampirism is going to get him. So he’ll progressively get antsy and begin getting more paranoid that people will find out what he is. Or he may go through drastic measures to prevent him from straying down this path. The blood cravings ring out to him like the heart in the tell tale heart, and he can ignore it for the most part. Sides track it; but he’s a time bomb with a lit fuse and he may one day just break down; stab someone and drain them dry.

This right here folks, is a beacon of emotional stability.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

Abilities/Weaknesses:

As a mortal:
Kane can see ghosts, has the ability to practice minor magic. Usually things like protection charms and other spells. His branch of magic deals with the notion that to cause pain, one must inflict pain unto self. Seeing him cut open his palm before he casts a spell is pretty common. His spells would be pretty ineffective unless targeted to spiritual entities; so given the circumstances he may not get to use this at all.

He can fight quite competently. He's versed in hand to hand combat as well as knife fighting. He's particular keen with disarms. He's versed on a range in weaponry, with knives being his favorite. He's somewhat adept with a sword but uses it mostly to behead things. He can wield a gun but prefers close combat tremendously. He's got some background as an Aikidoka; so when surprised the possibility of him flipping you over and pulling off a kotegaeshi is pretty high. Because of this background he will almost never attack first. He's also resourceful in a fight and has no issues playing a bit dirty.

Weaknesses
He's excellent with dealing with the undead. The living; he continuously underestimates so anyone can easily take advantage of that fact. He's prone to being pretty brash about his decisions, has no sense of what dangerous, disregards himself and other people pretty easily.

He buys into innocence pretty quickly; meaning if you feign that he will probably go at lengths to make sure people are okay. He's extremely detached. He's not the kindest person and sometimes he genuinely gives no fucks. He's also going to get very very very antsy about his craving for blood and he's going to pretend that it doesn't exist for as long as he can.

If he does ingest blood and accepts his vampy fate; the stuff stated in the preternatural section will also apply.

NERFS
A lot of his magic won't work on the living and his magic is quite specific. Some spells require things like a chicken to sacrifice or special kinds of blessed herbs that may not be able on the tranquility.

As a vampire, he'd have to ingest blood regularly to sustain himself and his powers. This already puts him at a genuine disadvantage because he has a lot of moral issues about people dying (the supernatural don't fit under people in his books). He'd let himself go to the edges of death rather than having to kill off people.

Appearance: PB IS JAMIE DORNAN.

He's described as having messy, wavy tousled brown hair and a bit of a beard. Pale blue eyes and sharp features. He keeps his hair a bit unkempt. He's not the tallest man, standing roughly at 5'7. His posture is straight when he walks; but he isn't against the occasional slouch. He looks a bit sleepless. He's attached to his jeans and his trainers; and his over sized slouchy jumpers when he's in casual. But during work, he puts on things near to the suit. Dress shirts, vests, jeans. He's not the most stylish; but he can dress for himself. His palms also have distinct scars etched on them.

Kane's accent is also a bit weird. It's a weird european mix and it hops around. Think something like that of Micheal Fassbender's when he has moments of random scottishness. There's some Aussie influence tossed in there too.

Age: Twenty Five

SAMPLES
Log Sample:

Kane drew the wakizashi out in a quick motion. His hands gripping the short sword as he maneuvers to make a slashing motion. The movement was an upward thrust of the blade; before he slashed downward and delivered a stab at the air. Just because he was in this stupid space ship, doesn’t mean he was going to let himself get rusty. He’d say God forbid; but other names held more credence about his training.

Training was always so relaxing for him. The need to just strike at something was almost therapeutic. He’d have less to do considering the status of the ship and the preternatural. There were no ghosts that haunted these walls; and although he was made to be fearless in the packaging even he couldn’t help but wonder what to expect. The ship, its situation sent him a delicate chill up his spine. He was rarely in the area of ‘not knowing’ and the lack of equipment set him off base.

Still, it had never hurt to be prepared. He does exercises. Positions his palms to block an invisible opponent. A Jab with the elbow, a side steps to bring the man closer and a strike to the neck. Too slow, do this in three motions instead of four. Now picture you’re dealing with a vampire. He lost himself into the rhythm for a few minutes. Fell into the cadence of combat.

And then he threw the knife at the imaginary demon lurking in the corner. The imaginary demon was off course, a computer monitor in one of the Holodecks. The knife shattering the glass entirely; as sparks and wires fizzed.

“Oh geez, I hope El Kapitan Ward doesn’t notice,” he says to no one in particular as he wonders how to get his knife back.

DEAR MUN

[ He'll casually be tapping the device; to check if this is on. The camera is moving, you can tell he's in one of the Holodecks. ]

Is it on? - Fuck, I'm usually really excellent at turning things on. I am not spending another 20 minutes rambling only to find it didn't record agai- oh, okay, there red dot. Good. Spot on. Bloody thing works.

[ Hello Tranquility, after a few more movements, he faces it towards himself. there's a rather chatty brown haired pretty boy grinning at the camera. ]

Hello there, Citizens of Starship Enterprise Registry 'We are fucked'. As much as I appreciate a good kidnapping, I really was in the middle of something prett-tay important. Since there's a bunch of us joining you already rather large and zany bunch - I was wondering if the supernatural - actually - preternatural, let's be politically correct here, hold any meaning to any of you?

Any ghost busters references will be met with sarcasm.
